Royal College of Physicians improves database security

Secerno solution protects medical organisation's 22,000 members

Written by Phil Muncaster

The Royal College of Physicians (RCP) has deployed a new database security solution from security vendor Secerno to protect the sensitive data of its 22,000 members worldwide.

The medical organisation implemented Secerno.SQL to shore up its database security in light of the increasing number of attacks that target this area of IT systems, according to Christopher Venning, RCP's IT and network support manager.

“Over the years, we have invested heavily in protecting our network perimeter and locking down our web site," he said in a statement supporting the release. "However, the threat landscape is continually evolving and hacker attacks are becoming highly targeted. They are cleverly written to circumvent network defences."

Before implementation, Secerno undertook an audit of RCP's legacy applications, identified where data was being stored and noted data access policies across the organisation, to tailor its solution effectively, said the firm.
